If you haven’t heard – Apple App Analytics is out and in Beta mode. I just got access to it today and couldn’t wait to see what it offers. So for those of you that are use to the Google Analytics tools, don’t get your hopes up, but still there is a lot to learn from this and it is 100% percent more than we had before.
I should say that this is still in Beta mode, So i’ve submitted my feedback and I hope other developers will as well, so this tool should improve as time goes on.
When I opened the App Analytics this morning, after looking at it for a few minutes, I started thinking how this new tool can be useful in day to day app publishing work. The first thing that caught my eyes was the analytics data presented according to Territory, this is great stuff if you are localizing your app and want to see if it works.
So i pulled out the statistics of two of my apps that have been released in the last month, it is actually the same source code with different skins. The first was not localized and the second was. Check this out – what do you think? can you tell the difference?(-:
Non Localized App
Can you guess for what countries I localized the second app? so I actually localized for about 10 countries and languages besides English, but now I know this:
- My localisation is working!!!
- I know that for now only France, Russia, Germany and Japan are bringing in downloads. So I should probably improve all the rest or stop doing them at all.
- My localization has doubled my downloads (the first app has more downloads as it was released a week earlier – so don’t be confused by it). I used the same English keywords and only added to it the other languages.
As these results where so amazing for me, I looked at another app that I localized at the same week (different source code), and here is what I saw:
These results where even more breath taking, it never happened to me that the US was not the leading downloads source, and here Germany just killed it!
I will be writing more about my localisation methods, but this just proves that localization works and now it can tested and analysed using the Apple App Analytics. If Apple would have shown us what where the exact search terms that brought this traffic (like Google does) it would have been amazing.
Let me know your thoughts, did you have any success with localization?
To Localized Apps!
